What happened with Trump and Colombia?

Recently, tensions arose between the United States and Colombia over the deportation of migrants. Colombia initially refused to accept flights carrying deported migrants from the U.S., prompting former President Donald Trump to threaten imposing tariffs of up to 25%, potentially increasing to 50%, on Colombian imports. He also suggested visa restrictions for Colombian officials and their families.

In response, Colombian President Gustavo Petro agreed to accept deported migrants and offered the use of the presidential plane to ensure the "dignified return" of Colombian citizens. The Colombian government also initiated talks with the U.S. to ensure humane conditions during the deportation process.

President Petro has previously criticized Trump, accusing him of racism and treating migrants as criminals. He even stated that he refused to shake hands with "white slave traders."

Eventually, a settlement was reached between the U.S. and Colombia, avoiding the imposition of American sanctions on Colombia.
